No. 20 WVU takes out Oklahoma State

Mar 8, 2015 - 6:05 AM Morgantown, WV (SportsNetwork.com) - Devin Williams clocked in with 22 points and 13 rebounds, as No. 20 West Virginia closed out its regular season with an 81-72 triumph over Oklahoma State on Saturday.

Daxter Miles Jr. added 15 points while Jaysean Paige and Nathan Adrian had nine each for the Mountaineers (23-8, 11-7 Big 12).

"We're doing a really good job of keeping balls alive and getting second chances," said West Virginia coach Bob Huggins.

Jeff Newberry's game-best 23 points wasn't enough for the Cowboys (18-12, 8-10). Anthony Hickey totaled 17 points and seven assists, with Phil Forte posting 13 points in defeat.

"We didn't play bad, we just couldn't ever get the big rebound or the big stop that we needed to get a run going," said Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford.

West Virginia led virtually wire-to-wire, finally gaining separation late in the first half with a 15-5 run.

A Le'Bryan Nash's dunk pulled OSU within 22-20, but Tarik Phillip began the hosts' run with a triple, later completed a three-point play, then Chase Connor was good from long distance and Elijah Macon capped the surge with 4:18 left in the half on a layup.

The Mountaineers nursed a six-point edge at the break, thanks to Forte's long- range shot.

WVU's lead quickly ballooned to 12 early in the second half after Jevon Carter and Miles sank consecutive treys. Paige converted a 3 with 6:43 left in the contest and the hosts raced out to their biggest lead of the game, 65-50.

Oklahoma State never pulled closer than seven the rest of the way.
