CARBONDALE, Illinois (Ticker) - If No. 15 Drake is to clinch a share of the Missouri Valley Conference title on Wednesday, it will have to end a losing streak.
The Bulldogs (22-1, 13-0 MVC) have won 21 consecutive games, but are looking to end an 11-game losing streak at Southern Illinois (12-12, 7-6) that dates back to February 17, 1996.
The Salukis, who have won 17 straight at home, are 59-1 here against conference opponents since the start of the 2001-02 season. Drake ended a 17-game losing streak against Southern Illinois with a 61-51 home victory on January 2.
The Bulldogs haven't shared the MVC title since 1970-71, winning their last outright championship the year before.
"We've got to understand that we've got to enjoy every victory we get," Drake coach Keno Davis said.
Sophomore guard Josh Young leads the Bulldogs at 16 points per game. Senior forward Randal Falker leads the Salukis with 12.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
