Loyd helps Notre Dame edge Maryland

Jan 28, 2014 - 2:45 AM College Park, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Jewell Loyd had 31 points, seven rebounds and six assists as No. 2 Notre Dame stayed perfect with an 87-83 victory over Maryland.

Kayla McBride had 20 points while Michaela Mabrey scored 13 for the Fighting Irish (19-0, 6-0 ACC), who held a 12-point lead at halftime, but saw that lead slip away and trailed at one point in the second half.

Alyssa Thomas had 29 points, 12 rebounds and five assists and Alicia DeVaughn gave 16 points and five boards for the Terrapins (16-3, 4-2), who have lost their past two.

Trailing 47-35 to start the second half, Maryland chipped away at its deficit and took a 64-63 lead when Thomas hit a jumper halfway through the final 20 minutes.

Notre Dame, though, answered with a 10-2 run and gave up another late surge to Maryland, but never lost the lead and McBride's jumper with 11 seconds to play sealed the win.
