South Carolina takes down LSU
Feb 17, 2014 - 12:21 AM Baton Rouge, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Aleigsha Welch and Tiffany Mitchell both totaled 19 points as No. 5 South Carolina downed 19th-ranked LSU, 73-57, on Sunday.Alaina Coates added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Gamecocks (23-2, 11-1 SEC).
Jeanne Kenney had 15 points and Theresa Plaisance 14 and six boards for the Tigers (18-7, 7-5).
South Carolina used an 11-2 run at the end of the first half to take a 32-24 edge to the break.
Kenney's triple pulled LSU within 42-40 with 11:37 to go, but the Gamecocks used a 13-4 surge thereafter to take control of the contest thanks to six points from Coates.
Sheila Boykin hit a layup to get the Tigers to 57-50 with 4:19 to play, but Mitchell countered with a jumper to fuel an 11-0 burst which locked up the game for the visitors.
