Irish stay perfect, rout Colonials
Mar 22, 2014 - 7:54 PM Toledo, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Michaela Mabrey scored 16 points to lead five players in double figures for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who ran over the Robert Morris Colonials 93-42 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at Savage Arena.Jewell Loyd and Natalie Achonwa each added 15 points for the top-seeded Irish (33-0), who advance to take on ninth-seed Arizona State. Madison Cable chipped in 13 points and Ariel Braker finished with 10 in the victory.
Anna Niki Stamolamprou was the only player in double figures for the 16th- seeded Colonials (21-12), tallying 12 points.
Notre Dame was never really challenged in the contest, entering the break with a 50-15 lead after shooting 56.8 percent from the floor (21-of-37) in the first half. Robert Morris was limited to six field goals in the first 20 minutes.
Not much changed after intermission, with the Irish coasting to the win on a 63 percent shooting effort.
Notre Dame had a 45-22 edge on the boards and assisted on 23 of 38 field goals.
