A pair of double-doubles powers Cowgirls past DePaul

Mar 24, 2013 - 10:12 PM Durham, NC (Sports Network) - Toni Young and Kendra Suttles each posted double-doubles as the seventh-seed Oklahoma State Cowgirls topped the 10th- seed DePaul Blue Demons, 73-56, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Young had 25 points and 13 rebounds and Suttles contributed 11 points and 13 boards for Oklahoma State (22-10). Tiffany Bias added 12 points and Liz Donohoe registered 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals for the Cowgirls who take on second-seed and host Duke on Tuesday.

Anna Martin scored 12 points, Brittany Hrynko had 11 and Katherine Harry tallied 17 rebounds for DePaul (21-12).

Oklahoma State led 42-31 at the break after shooting 55.6 percent from the floor in the first half. DePaul managed to keep the deficit from getting any bigger despite shooting 27.5 percent by hitting six shots from beyond the arc.

In the second half the Cowgirls connected on just 33.3 percent from the field but it was more than enough to hold off the Blue Demons who again failed to shoot better than 30 percent.

Both teams were guilty of 16 turnovers. DePaul took 37 shots from beyond the arc but only connected on eight of those attempts. Oklahoma State blocked seven shots and collected 14 steals.
