Duke takes down Mississippi State to reach Sweet 16

Mar 22, 2015 - 6:55 PM Durham, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Azura Stevens tallied 22 points and 10 rebounds for the fourth-seeded Blue Devils as Duke defeated the fifth- seeded Mississippi State Bulldogs, 64-56, in the second round of the NCAA Women's Tournament at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Rebecca Greenwell provided 17 points for the Blue Devils (23-10), who will advance to take on either Maryland or Princeton in the Sweet 16. Elizabeth Williams contributed 12 points and nine boards, while Ka'Lia Johnson recorded 10 points and four assists.

Victoria Vivians paced MSU (27-7) with 15 points and Kendra Grant scored 12 points.

Duke went into the intermission trailing, 28-24, after it committed 14 turnovers in the first stanza. The Bulldogs converted 7-of-17 attempts from beyond the arc before the break.

MSU was limited to 30.5 percent efficiency from the floor and committed 17 personal fouls over the final 20 minutes of regulation. The Blue Devils took control with a 29-10 run which gave them a 15-point lead and they managed to hang on despite missing their last five shots from the field.

Duke is now 4-1 all-time as a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils will be making their fifth appearance in the Sweet 16 in six years.
