Notre Dame knocks off Blue Demons

Mar 23, 2015 - 3:13 AM South Bend, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Michaela Mabrey scored 19 points, leading all five starters in double figures, as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish secured a 79-67 win over the DePaul Blue Demons in the second round of the Oklahoma City Regional of the NCAA Tournament at Purcell Pavilion.

Brianna Turner logged a double-double for the top-seeded Fighting Irish (33-2) as she put up 14 points and pulled a team-best 11 rebounds. Taya Reimer also had a double-double for the hosts with 14 points and 10 more boards, while Jewell Loyd accounted for 11 points and seven assists in the triumph.

With the victory, Notre Dame will now take on the survivor of the Oklahoma/Stanford meeting in the next round of the tourney.

For the ninth-seeded Blue Demons (27-8), Megan Podkowa posted 19 points and 11 rebounds, Jessica January delivered 12 points, Brittany Hrynko 11 and Chanise Jenkins 10 points in the setback.

Notre Dame, which shot 7-of-15 behind the 3-point line on the night and mounted a 51-32 advantage on the glass, survived 18 turnovers by limiting the visitors to only 10-of-34 shooting beyond the arc.
