No. 3 Oklahoma State rolls past Baylor
Oct 30, 2011 - 3:24 AM Stillwater, OK (Sports Network) - Brandon Weeden threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns while Joseph Randle scored four times on the ground as No. 3 Oklahoma State remained hot with a 59-24 demolition of Baylor at Boone Pickens Stadium.Weeden was 24-of-36 and threw a pair of TD passes to Justin Blackmon and one to Kye Staley for the Cowboys (8-0, 5-0 Big 12), who will try to extend their undefeated campaign against Kansas State next Saturday.
Blackmon led all receivers with 13 receptions for 172 yards, Randle struck for 152 yards on only 14 carries, and Herschel Sims counted an 81-yard TD run among his 104 yards on eight attempts.
"Offensively our guys were rolling pretty good," Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy said. "I was really proud of the way our defense played today. I think that they showed a lot of heart."
Robert Griffin III went 33-of-50 for 425 yards, one touchdown and a pair of interceptions for the Bears (4-3, 1-3), adding a rushing score. Baylor has dropped three of four and returns home to host Missouri next week.
Terrance Williams went for 154 yards and a TD reception on eight grabs, Kendall Wright posted 11 catches for 117 yards, and Terrance Ganaway posted 88 yards with a rushing touchdown on 23 carries.
OSU, which totaled 601 yards of total offense, hit the ground running in the first quarter, taking a 21-0 lead thanks to a two-yard TD run by Randle, and 18-yard Weeden pass to Staley and a 62-yard dash to paydirt from Randle.
"We had a bunch of mistakes that led to a couple big plays. You can't do that against an offense like this. You can't help them," Baylor cornerback Chance Casey said.
It was a 28-0 lead with 4:44 left before the half as Blackmon got his foot down in bounds at the right side of the end zone for an eight-yard TD.
Randle added a seven-yard run inside the final minute of the first half for a 35-0 game, then recorded another seven-yard scoring run to open the third quarter.
Baylor finally got on the board with a 36-yard field goal from Aaron Jones on the Bears' ensuing drive, and Ganaway's 18-yard scoring dash early in the fourth put the visitors into double digits.
Oklahoma State kept the offensive motor running, and took a 56-10 lead after an 81-yard TD run from Sims on the Cowboys' next play. Only two downs after that, Griffin and Williams connected on a 72-yard strike.
Quinn Sharp hit a 36-yarder to cap OSU's next drive, then Griffin finished off a series which lasted more than eight minutes with a one-yard plunge.
