Final
Clay, No. 11 OU edge TCU
Oct 6, 2013 - 4:35 AM Norman, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Brennan Clay rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown as No. 11 Oklahoma downed TCU, 20-17, on Saturday. With the Sooners (5-0, 2-0 Big 12) leading just 13-10 with under five minutes left, Clay broke off a 76-yard touchdown run to make it a 10-point game.
The Horned Frogs (2-3, 0-2) answered back with a 5-play, 74-yard drive that ended with an 8-yard Trevone Boykin touchdown run.
After completions of 45 and 21 yards brought the ball to the Oklahoma 10, B.J. Catalon was stopped for a 2-yard gain. On the next play, Boykin was flushed out of the pocket to the right sideline, but was able to beat a series of defenders to the goal line and pull TCU within 20-17.
Oklahoma, though, couldn't be stopped as Blake Bell broke off a 17-yard run as he carried a pair of defenders on his back past the first down marker and the Sooners were able to run out the clock.
"In the end there we knew we had to get a first down and move the ball," Bell said.
Bell was 20-for-31 passing for 152 yards and also picked up 52 yards on the ground. Trey Millard added a rushing touchdown in the win.
Boykin completed 16-of-26 passes for 166 yards and had a pair of rushing scores in the setback.
Michael Hunnicutt's 39-yard field goal with 2:45 remaining in the first gave the Sooners an early edge.
Millard's 8-yard TD run capped a dominating 13-play, 84-yard drive to make it 10-0 with just under 2 1/2 minutes left in the first half.
Hunnicutt's 37-yard field goal as time expired in the opening half sent the Sooners into the break sporting a 13-0 lead.
"We were physically outmatched in the first half," TCU head coach Gary Patterson said. "In the second half we had to find answers on how to win and we put ourselves in position to win the game."
TCU, though, clawed its way back into the game in the third. Jaden Obrekrom nailed a 25-yard field after the Horned Frogs' 11-play drive stalled deep in Oklahoma territory.
TCU then got the ball with a surprise onside-kick and needed just six plays to find the end zone as Boykin ran it in from two yards out.
