Giants top Bills in HOF Game
Aug 4, 2014 - 3:23 AM Canton, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - New York fourth-round rookie Andre Williams ran for 48 yards and a touchdown as the Giants topped the Buffalo Bills, 17-13, in the Hall of Fame Game.Giants quarterback Eli Manning played three series. He went three-and-out on the first and was strip-sacked on the opening play of the second, but New York went 80 yards on 12 plays on its third trek, culminating in Williams' 3-yard TD run.
Manning finished 6-of-7 for 43 yards for the Giants, who went 7-9 last season after starting 0-6.
Williams is fighting with offseason acquisition Rashad Jennings for the Giants' starting running back job. Jennings totaled 23 yards on seven carries.
Manning's backup, Ryan Nassib, completed 7-of-12 passes for 139 yards and threw the go-ahead 73-yard TD pass to Corey Washington early in the fourth to give the Giants a 17-13 lead.
Bills second-year quarterback E.J. Manuel was just 2-of-7 for 19 yards, while highly touted rookie wide receiver Sammie Watkins was targeted three times, but did not have a reception.
Robert Woods caught four passes for 49 yards and a score and Bryce Brown, who was acquired in a trade from Philadelphia, carried the ball seven times for 40 yards in defeat.
Kyle Williams' strip-sack of Manning led to a Dan Carpenter 30-yard field goal to open the scoring in the first and after Andre Williams' score, Woods hauled in a 2-yard TD pass from Jeff Tuel to cap the Bills' ensuing 15-play, 80-yard march to give them a 10-7 advantage with 9:00 to go in the second.
Brandon McManus split the uprights from 47 yards out on New York's next touch to tie the game at 10-10.
Carpenter banged through a 51-yard field goal with 4:08 to play in the third to stake Buffalo to a 13-10 edge.
