Cincinnati (0-5) at NY Jets (2-2), 1:00 pm EDT

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- The Cincinnati Bengals will attempt to avoid their sixth consecutive loss when they visit Brett Favre and the New York Jets on Sunday.

The Bengals have not been 0-6 since 2002. That season, Cincinnati lost its first seven games en route to a 2-14 mark.

The Bengals used the ensuing No. 1 pick to take quarterback Carson Palmer and, for a while, it appeared he would help the team break out of their prolonged mediocrity.

Led by Palmer, Cincinnati won the division in 2005. But the star quarterback broke his leg early in the first-round playoff loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers.

For the Bengals, it's been all downhill since then. Cincinnati squandered away the postseason the following year with three straight losses to end the campaign, finished 7-9 in 2007 and are off to a miserable start this season.

Palmer returned from an elbow injury that forced him to miss one game and passed for 217 yards and two touchdowns with one interception during last Sunday's 31-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

The 28-year-old Palmer is struggling this year, passing for 731 yards and three scores with four interceptions. One of his favorite targets, Chad "Johnson, has just 14 catches for 159 yards and a TD.

The Jets went into last week's bye on a high note. Favre threw a career-high six touchdowns during a 56-35 thrashing of the Arizona Cardinals on September 28.

Favre has been up and down in his first season with New York but has put up some impressive numbers through the first four games. The future Hall of Famer is completing over 70 percent of his passes for 935 yards and 12 scores with four interceptions.

The Jets have won four of their last five meetings with the Bengals.
