Final
Blues edge Blue Jackets
Dec 19, 2011 - 3:53 AM St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Alex Pietrangelo was credited with the game- winner, as the Blues pulled out a 6-4 win over the lowly Blue Jackets at Scottrade Center.Pietrangelo, Alexander Steen and Jason Arnott all scored in the third period for St. Louis, which has earned points in six straight games and improved to 13-2-4 under Ken Hitchcock.
T.J. Oshie added a goal and an assist for St. Louis, which scored a season- high in goals to back Jaroslav Halak's 28-save effort.
Derick Brassard scored with 4:09 remaining to cut Columbus's deficit to 5-4, but Patrik Berglund netted an empty-netter in the final minute to seal the outcome.
"We've let a few slide in the third period and we've got to learn from it. You'd think that we already have learned from it and we obviously haven't," said Columbus forward Derek Dorsett, who also scored in defeat.
Steve Mason gave up five goals on 33 shots to take the loss, the Blue Jackets' fifth in six games.
Columbus' Derek MacKenzie scored on a rebound with 7:54 remaining in the opening period, but goals by Kevin Shattenkirk and Oshie gave the Blues the lead heading to the second.
Mason made a sprawling glove save early in the middle stanza, and the Blue Jackets tied it when Fedor Tyutin's point shot deflected off Dorsett and over Halak's left shoulder at the four-minute mark.
While on the power play with time winding down, Mark Letestu's wrister from between the circles found the back of the net with 1.3 seconds showing.
But Columbus' 3-2 lead lasted just 58 seconds into the third, as Steen put one in off a long rebound.
Arnott scored the go-ahead goal at 6:43 off a nice feed from David Perron from behind the net, and Pietrangelo added insurance with a wrister that snuck by Mason with 7:52 remaining.
"It wasn't one of our best games but the guys pulled it off tonight. We never say die and came out in the third [period] with a big quick goal and got back after it and stuck with our system in the third," Arnott said.
