Coyotes edge Stars

Apr 14, 2014 - 4:36 AM Glendale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - David Moss scored in the third period to lift the Phoenix Coyotes over the playoff-bound Dallas Stars, 2-1, in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Shane Doan also scored for the Coyotes (37-30-15), who snapped a seven-game skid. Thomas Greiss made 16 saves.

"That's something we talked about. That stupid streak, someone has to end it," Moss said.

Colton Sceviour scored the lone goal for the Stars (40-31-11), who saw Tim Thomas stop 29-of-31 shots.

Dallas is back in the postseason for the first time since 2008 after securing the West's second wild-card spot. They will face the Pacific Division champion Ducks in the first round. Game 1 is set for Wednesday.

"You still don't want to lose. I didn't want to lose that game. The only bitter taste was the end of the game," Dallas head coach Lindy Ruff said.

The Stars scored on the power play 2:35 into the game. Sceviour used a few dekes before putting the puck past Greiss.

Phoenix tied the game 31 seconds into the middle stanza when Doan redirected a shot from the point by Zbynek Michalek past Thomas.

With just 2:31 left in the third, Moss scored from the left circle to give the Coyotes a 2-1 edge.

Greiss made nine saves over the final 20 minutes.
