Crawford helps Chicago take down Anaheim
Nov 29, 2014 - 4:57 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Corey Crawford stopped 23 shots to lead the Chicago Blackhawks in a 4-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Friday.Patrick Kane scored twice while Brad Richards and Andrew Shaw each had a goal and an assist for the Blackhawks, who have won five of their last six.
Hampus Lindholm scored the only goal of the game for the Ducks, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Frederik Andersen allowed three goals on 37 shots in the loss.
"Freddy played great for us tonight because things could have been much worse for us tonight if it wasn't for him," said Washington head coach Bruce Boudreau.
Chicago took a 1-0 lead 7:58 into the game off a 2-on-1 break that saw Richards use a heavy wrister from the right wing to get the puck under the glove of Andersen for his fourth of the season.
It was a 2-0 game just 5 1/2 minutes later as a crisp passing play was finished off when Duncan Keith sent a slap-pass to the front of the net where Shaw tipped it in for his fifth of the season.
"That start was huge. It seems like things always trend upward for our team when we have good starts like that," said Kane.
Anaheim, though, made it a 2-1 contest with 3:11 to play in the first when Patrick Maroon's slap shot from the left wing hit off the backboards and popped out front where Lindholm batted it in.
The only goal of the second period went to Chicago as Kris Versteeg sent a quick backhand pass from the left side of the net to the front where Kane one- timed it home for his ninth of the season at 10:36.
Crawford turned away all 11 shots he faced in the final period, while Kane scored an empty-netter in the final minute to seal the victory.
