Hurricanes beat Flyers in SO

Apr 4, 2015 - 9:29 PM Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Nathan Gerbe and Chris Terry scored in the shootout to lift the Carolina Hurricanes over the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2, on Saturday.

Jordan Staal and Elias Lindholm lit the lamp in regulation for the Hurricanes, who snapped a three-game skid. Cam Ward made 21 saves.

"It was nice to get the win," Staal said. "It wasn't a great road trip, by any means, and it was nice to get the W."

Michael Raffl and Sean Couturier scored for the Flyers, who fell to 3-11 in shootouts this season. Ray Emery stopped 24-of-26 shots in his first start since March 21.

"It's been two different stories at home and on the road for us," Emery said. "I think that's pretty much the difference in our year. I don't know why, but we'll put that in the past and learn from it."

Trailing 2-0, Raffl put Philadelphia on the board at 9:46 of the second period. With Alexander Semin off for hooking, the Flyers worked the puck around to Couturier, whose shot from the left point was deflected in by Raffl.

Couturier tied things up with 1:50 left in the third when he snuck a backhander through the five-hole of Ward.

Nick Cousins scored in the second round of the shootout to keep Philadelphia alive. But Ward secured the victory by denying Claude Giroux's backhand in the third round.

The Hurricanes took a 1-0 lead 11 minutes into the first stanza when Lindholm put home a rebound from the right circle.

Staal knocked the puck away from Nicklas Grossmann in the neutral zone and beat Emery at 3:27 of the second.
