Allen, Blues blank Devils

Nov 5, 2014 - 5:35 AM Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Jake Allen stopped 26 shots for his second shutout of the season to lift the St. Louis Blues to a 1-0 win over the New Jersey Devils in the front end of a home-and-home set.

Vladimir Tarasenko had the only goal of the game for the Blues, who have won six straight contests.

"You just try not to think of things too much and just do your job," said Allen. "Of course you want to have as many goals on the board as you can get, but if everyone does their job it will come together."

Cory Schneider suffered the tough-luck loss as he allowed just one goal on 23 shots for the Devils, who had won three of four coming into the game.

"We just started to wear down there at the end and couldn't get that goal," said New Jersey defenseman Andy Greene. "I think we had a good tempo and we were aggressive."

These two squads will meet in New Jersey on Thursday.

Allen made 21 saves through the first two periods while Schneider stopped 17 to keep the game scoreless heading into the third, but the Blues broke through at 4:55.

Skating on the power play due to a holding call on Marek Zidlicky, Tarasenko and Jori Lehtera played catch with the puck in the right corner. Tarasenko took the puck and made a stride toward the net before wristing it in for his eighth of the season.

New Jersey got Schneider out of the net with just over 90 seconds to play for an extra skater, but they were unable to get any shots on net.
