Canucks aim to rebound in Edmonton

Nov 19, 2014 - 4:01 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Vancouver Canucks hope to bounce back from their worst loss of the season when they visit the sliding Edmonton Oilers for Wednesday's battle at Rexall Place.

Vancouver had a two-game winning streak halted in Friday's 5-0 loss to visiting Arizona. It marked the first time the Canucks were shut out this season and the five-goal margin of defeat was the club's most lopsided loss since a 6-1 setback in Dallas on March 6.

The Canucks hope to rebound tonight against the Oilers, who are already 0-2-1 in three meetings with Vancouver this season. Edmonton has lost six of the past eight meetings in this series and the Canucks also have claimed three of the last four road encounters at Rexall Place and own a 2-0 mark in Edmonton this season.

The Pacific Division clubs will meet for a fifth and final time in the regular season on April 11 in Vancouver.

Ryan Miller, who surrendered all five goals on 23 shots in Friday's blowout loss to the Coyotes, is 3-0 against the Oilers this season to stay unbeaten in his career versus Edmonton. Vancouver's No. 1 netminder owns a 10-0 mark and a lifetime 1.79 goals against average in this matchup and is expected to start tonight.

Miller surrendered a hat trick to Arizona's Martin Hanzal in Friday's loss, but the 34-year-old is still boasting an 11-3-0 mark and a 2.65 GAA in his first season with the Canucks.

Vancouver has won four of its last five road games and is 7-3-0 as the visiting team this season. The Canucks will open a three-game homestand tomorrow when they welcome back Ryan Kesler and the Anaheim Ducks.

Edmonton is last in the Western Conference with just 14 points through 18 games and the 6-10-2 club has dropped three straight and seven of its last nine games.

The Oilers are 0-1-1 so far on a five-game homestand and just 4-5-1 at Rexall Place this season. Like Vancouver, they also are coming off a loss to the Coyotes, as Edmonton dropped a 2-1 regulation against Arizona on Sunday.

Former Oilers goaltender Devan Dubnyk returned to Rexall Place and earned the win for Arizona with 33 saves. Brandon Gormley also scored his first NHL goal in the Coyotes' victory.

Taylor Hall netted Edmonton's lone goal in his return to the lineup after missing six games with an MCL sprain in his right knee. Ben Scrivens allowed both goals on 28 shots for Edmonton.

"It was one of those nights where it's hard to look at anybody in our lineup and fault them," Oilers coach Dallas Eakins said.

The Oilers are now winless in nine games against Western Conference opponents this season, going 0-8-1 within the conference.
