Rask, Bruins take down Coyotes
Mar 1, 2015 - 5:11 AM Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tuukka Rask stopped 31 shots to lead the Boston Bruins in a 4-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday.Milan Lucic, Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand all scored for the Bruins, who have won three of four following a six-game losing streak.
"Now we just have to continue to play like we did the last four or five games," said Chara. "We're getting towards the playoffs and if we want to get in we need to get some points."
Martin Erat had the only goal of the game for the Coyotes, who have lost nine in a row. Mike Smith was pulled in the second period after allowing four goals on 20 shots, while Louis Domingue turned aside all 14 shots he faced.
"It's a miserable feeling in there between losing and guys not knowing where they're going to be," said Arizona head coach Dave Tippett. "Hopefully we can get past that and come out of the deadline with whoever is in the lineup and get to work."
The Bruins' first goal came off a Smith miscue as David Pastrnak dumped the puck in the zone and it went behind the net. Smith came out to play it, but it bounced over to Lucic and he snuck it in for his 13th of the season at 2:40 of the first.
Boston took a 2-0 lead in transition at 14:13 of the first as Reilly Smith skated down the right wing and flung it over to the left where Marchand wristed it in for his 18th of the season.
The Bruins took a 3-0 lead at 3:02 of the second when Bergeron threw a backhand on net from the left side that hit off the skate of Arizona's Keith Yandle and snuck in.
It was a 4-0 lead for the Bruins at 11:50 of the second after a power-play goal that saw Zdeno Chara blast a one-timer from the top of the right circle for his fifth goal of the season.
Erat spoiled Rask's shutout bid at 10:21 of the third as he redirected a Shane Doan shot into the net for his ninth of the season.
