Ducks edge Jets late, go up 2-0 in series

Apr 19, 2015 - 5:59 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jakob Silfverberg's score occurred with 21 seconds remaining in regulation, and provided Anaheim with a 2-1 decision over Winnipeg in Game 2 of this Western Conference quarterfinal.

Ryan Kesler shuttled the puck into the left-wing corner where Silfverberg, fresh from a battle with Jets forward Bryan Little, scooped it up, moved out in front and scored on a hard shot to the far side.

Patrick Maroon registered the other goal for the Ducks, who carry a 2-0 series edge thanks to a 6-3 edge in scoring and 5-0 advantage in the third period.

Frederik Andersen backed his offense with 28 saves.

"We didn't quit," said Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau. "I think both games have been extremely even right down to the wire. Both teams are battling as hard as they can. Consequently you get one-goal games that come down to the last second."

Adam Pardy lit the lamp for the Jets, who are still searching for the franchise's first playoff victory after six consecutive losses.

Ondrej Pavelec stopped 37 pucks in defeat.

Game 3 will take place in Winnipeg on Monday.

"Well we get on a plane to fly home and deal with the game the next morning and get back at it," Jets coach Paul Maurice said. "By the time that puck drops in Winnipeg we would have put this one behind us."

The Jets survived 1:23 of a two-man disadvantage early in the contest as Pardy and Tyler Myers were penalized in a 37-second span for high sticking.

Anaheim came out firing early on, peppering Pavelec with 17 first-period shots, to which he was equal.

Pardy finally opened the scoring on a wraparound with 4:17 left before the second intermission. The play was reviewed since Kesler knocked Jets winger Lee Stempniak into the net before the shot was taken, but the on-ice call was allowed.

After a frenzied sequence of near-misses during a high-sticking minor to Winnipeg captain Andrew Ladd, Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler cranked up a point blast which was tipped in by Maroon at 10:43 of the third.

Game Notes

Atlanta's one and only playoff appearance, in 2007, ended with a four-game sweep against the New York Rangers ... The last postseason game won by a club based in Winnipeg was a 3-1 decision in Detroit on Apr. 26, 1996 in Game 5 of a Western quarterfinal ... Pardy's marker was his first career playoff goal and first of any kind since Jan. 26, 2011 for Calgary.
