Carolina (2-1-1) at Anaheim (1-4-0), 8:00 pm EDT
ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Now that the Anaheim Ducks ended their losing skid, they can concentrate on producing a more positive stretch.
Looking to earn their first winning streak of the season, the Ducks conclude a three-game homestand by hosting the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday evening.
Goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 38 shots to record his 30th career shutout and first since February 5 in a 4-0 victory over the Pacific Division rival San Jose Sharks on Friday.
The win ended a four-game losing streak and avoided the possibility of a franchise-worst start. It also erased the distinction of being the only NHL team without a point.
Anaheim, which ended San Jose's four-game winning streak, dropped a 4-1 decision in both teams' respective regular-season openers on October 9.
Giguere, who was a first-round pick by Hartford two years before the franchise relocated to Carolina, is 1-2-0 with a tie and a 3.07 goals-against average in five career games against the Hurricanes.
Carolina is coming off two straight losses, the most recent being a 4-3 overtime defeat to the Los Angeles Kings. On Monday, the Detroit Red Wings rolled to a 3-1 triumph over the Hurricanes, who won their first two games of the season.
In his lone career appearance versus the Ducks, goaltender Cam Ward made 25 saves in a 4-2 victory on December 29, 2006 in the teams' most recent matchup.
