Husidic, Zardes help Galaxy smash Union

Jun 21, 2015 - 4:28 AM Carson, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Baggio Husidic and Gyasi Zardes each recorded a goal and two assists as the Los Angeles Galaxy rolled to a 5-1 win over the Philadelphia Union at the StubHub Center on Saturday.

The Galaxy entered the match on a three-game winless run, but broke out in a big way as Husidic and Juninho each scored in the opening half before goals from Zardes, Stefan Ishizaki and Sebastian Lletget after the break.

C.J. Sapong scored the lone goal in the 58th minute for the Union, who lost for the third time in four games.

Maurice Edu missed a great chance to give the visitors the lead in the 12th minute when he headed the ball over the net from a few yards with the goal at his mercy.

The Galaxy took advantage and grabbed the lead in the 23rd minute when a shot Zardes following a turnover struck the post and went straight to Husidic, who drove a shot underneath goalkeeper Brian Sylvestre.

Zardes played provider in the 35th with a nice ball to Juninho at the top of the box, allowing the Brazilian to take a touch and smack a shot inside the right post.

The lead swelled to 3-0 in the 56th when a pinpoint cross from Robbie Keane allowed Zardes to finish at the back post from eight yards.

Sapong scored on the turn two minutes later to reduce the deficit to 3-1, but Ishizaki's thunderous volley one minute later restored the three-goal lead and snuffed out any chance of a Union comeback attempt.

Lletget came on as a substitute and curled home a first-time shot after Zardes laid the ball off to him at the top of box with 25 minutes to play to cap the scoring.
