RSL gets the better of Kreis, NYCFC

May 24, 2015 - 4:03 AM Sandy, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - John Stertzer and Alvaro Saborio found the back of the net on Saturday as Real Salt Lake got the better of former manager Jason Kreis with a 2-0 win over New York City FC at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Kreis led RSL to an MLS Cup title in 2009 but left the club at the conclusion of the 2013 season to take the reins at expansion side New York City FC, but it was three points for RSL courtesy of Stertzer in the 25th minute and Saborio in the 49th minute.

New York City, meanwhile, continues to struggle, having extended its winless run in league play to 10 straight matches.

The home side opened the scoring after 25 minutes when Stertzer fired home his first goal of the season off an excellent feed from Devon Sandoval.

Jeff Cassar's side then doubled the advantage four minutes into the second half when Saborio did well to free himself of his mark in the box and get on the end of a cross from Luke Mulholland.

Saborio, the Costa Rican international, nodded it down and in behind New York City, and former RSL goalkeeper, Josh Saunders.

Kreis made a pair of offensive-minded substitutions in the second half, bringing on Thomas McNamara and Sebastian Velazquez hoping for an offensive spark.

But Kreis' expansion side couldn't find the back of the net and suffered its seventh loss in 12 matches played.
