Nyassi piles more misery on New England
Aug 13, 2012 - 1:21 AM Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - The New England Revolution slumped to a fifth loss in six games on Sunday after a frustrating 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Montreal Impact at Gillette Stadium. The Revs generated many more scoring opportunities but were undone by a fine piece of individual skill from Montreal's Sanna Nyassi, who came off the bench at halftime to burn his former team.
Montreal has now won three straight games, while New England is headed in the opposite direction having claimed just one point from its last six outings.
The first half summed up the night for Revs, who were denied by the woodwork on two occasions while Montreal failed to create a decent scoring chance.
New England's Chris Tierney tried to set up a teammate and instead nearly scored himself as he drove a ball into the penalty area through traffic that struck the post.
Five minutes later it was Saer Sene's turn as he beat goalkeeper Troy Perkins with a shot from inside the box that hit the crossbar.
After 60 minutes of play Montreal failed to test Revs goalkeeper Matt Reis, but Nyassi embarked on a nice individual run and capped off the move with an emphatic finish into the upper corner of the net.
It was a real blow to the home side, and Sene was denied by a nice reaction stop from Perkins 20 minutes from time to keep Montreal in front.
The final chance came in stoppage time with Sene once again providing the threat, only to see his deflected shot end up on the wrong side of the post.
