Seattle, FCD hope to bounce back at Toyota Stadium

Sep 23, 2014 - 10:22 PM Frisco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Seattle Sounders FC and FC Dallas will be aiming to bounce back from disappointing defeats last time out when the two sides square off at Toyota Stadium on Wednesday.

The Sounders saw their four-game winning run in league play come to an end in a 4-1 defeat to Red Bull New York on Saturday.

The result was something of a hangover from Seattle's U.S. Open Cup final win on Tuesday, the club's fourth triumph in the competition over the last six years, but Saturday's defeat at Red Bull Arena leaves head coach Sigi Schmid with plenty of hunger to rebound.

"It's just good to get back at it and train. Getting on the field and knocking the ball around is a good thing," Schmid told the club's official website. "This group is obviously disappointed in the performance on Saturday night. It doesn't matter who played. And we're looking forward to putting in a normal Seattle performance on Wednesday. We know we're capable of playing better soccer."

Even though Seattle already has a playoff berth locked up, the club still harbors hopes of a historic treble. And with the Los Angeles Galaxy primed to pounce on any Sounders slip up, additional importance is belong placed on Wednesday's clash at FCD.

"It's three points every single game all season, but toward the end of the season it seems like they count a lot more. We know we need to stay on top of the league and on top of the other teams," Sounders midfielder Lamar Neagle told the club's official website. "I don't think there's pressure. We want to get back to where we know we are. We're in the number one position and we need to show that every single game, especially heading into the playoffs."

While Seattle is in a position of relative luxury, the situation for Dallas is a bit more dire.

The club comes into the contest in fourth place in the Western Conference with 45 points. But while Dallas still sits eight points clear of the postseason divide, the club's of three defeats in its last four is somewhat worrisome.

"We're fighting for points," FCD head coach Oscar Pareja said after his team's 2-1 loss to the Galaxy on Saturday. "We're trying to get ourselves into the playoff spot, and we have the tools and the heart to do it.

"All of our minds right now are on the Wednesday's game. We have to turn this page quick and be focused on Seattle Wednesday. That's where we are. We have all the tools, our boys are doing an incredible job and I am proud of them. I back them up, the way they ran today and pushed, it was good."
