Revs, Rapids searching for improved offense
Apr 3, 2015 - 8:55 PM Commerce City, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Rapids will be seeking their first win - and first goal - of the season when they welcome the New England Revolution to Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday. The Rapids are the last remaining MLS team without a goal this term, but they also have not leaked any goals at the other end.
That means that despite its failure to find the back of the net, Colorado has managed to take three points from its opening three fixtures.
Heading into its fourth match of the campaign, the goal is clear for the Rapids.
"To continue getting better defensively but more importantly, trying to get that elusive goal," said Rapids head coach Pablo Mastroeni. "I think once we get one, it's like a piano on your back and there is a lot of second-guessing when you are in front of the goal. Should I shoot or should I pass? I think once you score that first one the flood gates will open. We have guys that are putting themselves in great positions and we just need that pass to go our way and for that ball to hit the back of the net."
New England found itself in a similar predicament heading into its fourth contest of the season, though the reigning Eastern Conference champions only managed a point from their first three matches.
After successive road defeats without a goal and a scoreless home draw with the Montreal Impact, the Revs finally broke the seal in a 2-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes with both goals coming courtesy of Kelyn Rowe.
"I think it picks it up a little bit, it's not easy going three games without a goal and only having one point," Rowe said. "I think especially at home it's good to find those goals, it's good to play well, and create these chances but I think going forward the confidence it going to be higher and I think you'll find goals from other guys as well."
