Hammon, Silver Stars win 12th straight
Aug 22, 2012 - 2:31 AM San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Becky Hammon poured in a game-high 22 points as the San Antonio Silver Stars held off the Washington Mystics, 75-72, on Tuesday.Sophia Young chipped in with 13 points and seven rebounds and Jayne Appel grabbed 10 boards for the Silver Stars, who have won a franchise-best 12 straight.
Crystal Langhorne and Jasmine Thomas each scored 17 and Monique Currie added 12 for the Mystics, who are 1-3 since the WNBA Olympic break.
San Antonio took a 33-32 lead into the break before outscoring Washington, 26-12, in the third stanza.
Washington trailed by as many as 17, but were able to cut it to just five with 17.7 seconds remaining.
The Mystics were forced to foul Hammon, who knocked down the first of two free throws and Thomas nailed a three with just 3.3 seconds to play, but the Silver Stars were able to dribble out the clock and hold on to the win.
