Aug 24, 2012 - 5:20 AM Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Cappie Pondexter scored 31 points to lift the New York Liberty to an 89-77 win over the Phoenix Mercury.Leilani Mitchell and Nicole Powell tallied 13 points, wile Plenette Pierson and Kara Braxton scored 12 in New York's second straight win.
DeWanna Bonner scored 34 and Krystal Thomas had a career-high 14 rebounds for Phoenix, which lost its ninth in a row.
The Mercury played without several key players: Candice Dupree (left knee surgery), Diana Taurasi, Alexis Gray-Lawson (knee), Charde Houston (ankle) and Penny Taylor (torn left ACL).
