Fowles, Quigley lead Sky past Liberty in Delle Donne's return
Aug 1, 2014 - 2:29 AM Rosemont, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Sylvia Fowles and Allie Quigley led six Chicago scorers in double digits with 16 points apiece and Elena Delle Donne returned to the lineup as the Sky defeated the New York Liberty, 87-74, on Thursday.Fowles also tallied 14 rebounds, while Jamierra Faulkner had 14 points, seven assists and five rebounds for the Sky, who snapped a two-game skid. Tamera Young scored 12 points and Epiphanny Prince had 11.
Delle Donne, who missed 17 of Chicago's last 18 games with a recurrence of Lyme disease, scored 10 points in her return.
Tina Charles led the Liberty with 15 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots. Cappie Pondexter tallied 14 points in the setback, her team's second in their last three games.
The game was tied at 22-22 after the first quarter and the Sky led 39-36 going into the half.
Plenette Pierson and Swin Cash both made layups to get the Liberty within 65-61 with under a minute remaining in the third stanza, but Chicago pulled away in the fourth.
Quigley opened the frame with a three to ignite an 11-2 spurt that was capped by Fowles' running layup, making it a 76-63 game with 6:27 to go. Chicago's lead didn't dip under nine points the rest of the way.
