Wilson, Jones and Jackson Earn Weekly Honors

Jul 8, 2014 - 7:39 PM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Jacksonville Sharks wide receiver Jomo Wilson has been awarded Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week, while Cleveland Gladiators defensive backs Dominic Jones and LaRoche Jackson have been named Riddell Defensive Player of the Week and J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Week, respectively, for Week 17 of the 2014 NET10 Wireless Arena Football League season. In addition to these awards, the AFL is also awarding the Cutters Catch of the Week and AFL Highlight of the Week. The Cutters Catch of the Week has been awarded to Cleveland Gladiators wide receiver Collin Taylor, while the AFL Highlight of the Week has been awarded to San Jose SaberCats wide receiver David Hyland.

RUSSELL ATHLETIC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Wilson (6-0, 205, Eastern Oregon) accounted for five total touchdowns in Jacksonville's 62-34 victory over the San Antonio Talons in Week 17. Wilson caught five balls for 72 yards and four scores as a receiver and added a fifth touchdown on the ground against his former team. Wilson has hauled in a touchdown pass in each of the last four games and is now just four scoring grabs shy of 150 for his career.

RIDDELL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jones (5-9, 190, Otterbein) collected a career-high three interceptions to go along with six tackles and four pass breakups in Cleveland's 61-40 victory over the Portland Thunder last week. It was also the first multi-interception game of his career. Jones leads Cleveland with 24 pass breakups this season.

J. LEWIS SMALL PLAYMAKER OF THE WEEK

Jackson (5-11, 190, Clark Atlanta) collected 10 tackles and returned six kickoffs for 173 yards, taking one back 56 yards for a touchdown in Cleveland's 61-40 victory over the Portland Thunder in Week 17. Since his return from injury in Week 16, Jackson has racked up 246 kick return yards and scored touchdowns on both defense and special teams. He will be awarded a timepiece crafted by J. Lewis Small for his efforts.

CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK

Taylor (6-1, 200, Indiana) made another catch for the highlight reel last week as he snatched what appeared to be a Portland Thunder interception and turned it into a first down for the Gladiators. The ball bounced out of the hands of Thunder defense back Varmah Sonie and into Taylor's mitts as Cleveland rolled to a 61-40 victory in Week 17. He will receive a Cutters hat and shirt in recognition of the catch.

AFL HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

Hyland (6-0, 190, Morehead State) returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown in San Jose's 75-34 victory over the LA KISS last week. It was the first of two picks in the game for Hyland, who was back in action for the first time since Week 4. Hyland has recorded 23 tackles and three interceptions in five games this season.

Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Cleveland's Dominick Goodman, Philadelphia's Markee White, Pittsburgh's Prechae Rodriguez and San Jose's Reggie Gray.

Riddell Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Jacksonville's Brodrick Brown, New Orleans' Demarcus Robinson, Philadelphia's Ted Jennings and San Jose's David Hyland.

J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Week candidates included: Jacksonville's Jomo Wilson, New Orleans' Quorey Payne, Philadelphia's Rayshaun Kizer and San Jose's Reggie Gray.
