Eagles pair go round again in AFL
Sep 20, 2017 - 6:44 AM West Coast veterans Mark LeCras and Eric Mackenzie have been spared the AFL axe and will play on in 2018.The club champions, out of contract at season's end, have signed one-year deals to extend their long tenures at the Eagles.
The 31-year-old LeCras, West Coast's best and fairest in 2010, has kicked 409 goals for the club.
Mackenzie, 29, won the same award in 2014 before missing the Eagles' 2015 run to the grand final with a serious knee injury.
Club football boss Craig Vozzo said the pair were valuable additions to their 2018 playing stocks.
"Mark is one of the smartest forwards in the game and Eric finished the season strongly as part of our defensive structure, so it will be great to have their experience and ability as part of the squad for at least one more season," he said.
West Coast have already shed more than 1000 games of experience in the off-season.
Sam Mitchell (329 games), Sam Butler (166), Drew Petrie (332) and Matt Priddis (240) have all played their last AFL games for the Eagles after their semi-final loss to GWS.
