Knee surgery for Pies midfielder Greenwood
Dec 19, 2017 - 6:35 AM Collingwood have suffered another pre-season setback with important onballer Levi Greenwood undergoing knee surgery on Tuesday. He joins key Magpies Jamie Elliott (ankle) and Alex Fasolo (shoulder) on the sidelines after they also required surgery.
The 28-year-old missed the last three games of last season with the injury that he suffered in the round 20 win over old side North Melbourne.
It was expected to heal with rest, but he complained of ongoing soreness as he participated in pre-season training and was sent for an operation to repair a damaged medial ligament.
"The surgery ... is relatively minor but it should allow Levi to fully recover and play and train pain free," Pies football chief Geoff Walsh said.
"We expect him to be back running inside six weeks."
Elliott and Fasolo will be sidelined for roughly the same period of time.
Elliott also carried his injury into the off-season and didn't return to full fitness with rest, while Fasolo suffered his injury in a pre-season training mishap.
