Nepal cricket fires physio amid sex claims

Jul 17, 2015 - 8:55 AM Nepal's cricket board has fired the team's physiotherapist following his arrest in Northern Ireland over allegations of sexual assault during the ongoing World T20 qualifying tournament.

Police arrested Aijaz Bashir Ashai after a masseuse accused the 42-year-old of molesting her in Belfast on Tuesday, says Uttam Karmacharya, general secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal.

"After the masseuse accused the Team Nepal physiotherapist of molestation, we decided to terminate his contract," Karmacharya told nes agency AFP on Friday.

"We hired him in India last month to work with the team during the qualifying stages of the Twenty20 World Cup," Karmacharya said.

Ashai, an Indian citizen, was granted bail after appearing in court in Northern Ireland earlier this week but faces a court hearing next month, according to the Nepalese board and reports from Belfast.

Nepal is scheduled to play a T20 international match against Papua New Guinea in Dublin on Friday.
