Record win for Sri Lanka over Zimbabwe

Jul 18, 2017 - 10:05 AM Sri Lanka have denied Zimbabwe their first series away win in 16 years by chasing down a record 388 to win the one-off Test by four wickets in Colombo.

The hosts made 6-391 to defeat the visitors on the final day of an intriguing Test on Tuesday.

It was also the highest successful run chase in Sri Lanka's Test history, and the fifth highest ever by any nation.

The hosts, who had lost their first one-day international series against Zimbabwe prior to the Test, had been reduced to 5-203 before lunch.

Zimbabwe captain Graeme Cremer picked up the early wickets of Kusal Mendis, who made 66, and former Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews for 25.

However, Niroshan Dickwella and Asela Gunaratne combined in a stand of 121 to anchor the chase.

Wicketkeeper Dickwella was out for 81 while Gunaratne, who was suffering from a hamstring injury, remained 80 not out. Dilruwan Perera was unbeaten on 29.
