England's DRS trouble continues at MCG
Dec 29, 2017 - 2:03 AM England's trouble with the Decision Review System (DRS) at the MCG has continued, with Joe Root the culprit on day four of the fourth Ashes Test.Root wasted one of his two reviews in the seventh over of Australia's second innings.
The skipper, stationed in the slips cordon, was convinced Cameron Bancroft edged a teasing delivery from Tom Curran.
Curran and other teammates were far less certain but Root reviewed umpire Sundaram Ravi's not out verdict.
Hot-spot replays suggested Bancroft didn't edge the ball. There was a faint spike on the Snickometer but it didn't come as the Kookaburra passed Bancroft's bat.
Root raced up to Ravi after the third umpire made his decision.
Bancroft was on 11 at the time and later fell for 27.
James Vince and Dawid Malan both opted against referring their lbw dismissals during England's first innings.
Hot-spot replays showed a clear edge on both occasions.
"They asked my opinion and I thought both of them were out from my end, otherwise I would have told them. Normally you know if you have hit it or not," Alastair Cook said after day three.
"It is a little bit strange. We make mistakes. We are all human. Obviously, they would be more disappointed.
"I didn't hear either from my end."
Cook finished 244 not out, handing his side a first-innings lead of 164 runs and the prefect platform to push for a victory in the MCG dead rubber.
