Bombers RW Fitzpatrick nets five goals in third period

Nov 4, 2007 - 2:16 AM DAYTON, Ohio (Ticker) -- The Trenton Devils had everything under control through two periods. Then Chanse Fitzpatrick took over.

Fitzpatrick scored five goals in the third period to lead the Dayton Bombers to a 5-1 victory over the Devils on Saturday, becoming the 25th player in ECHL history and second Bomber to tally five times in a game.

Entering without a point in three contests this season, Fitzpatrick netted four of his five goals on the power play, tying the league record set by Matt Oates of the Columbus Chill on March 8, 1996.

With Trenton ahead, 1-0, on a second-period goal by Stephen Wood, the 23-year-old Fitzpatrick began his incredible feat 52 seconds into the third with a man-advantage tally, putting a backhander past goaltender Jason Smith. He gave Dayton the lead just over two minutes later with an even-strength goal and reeled off three power-play tallies in a 2:31 span late in the session to cap the outburst.
