Lynx suspend operations

Dec 3, 2008 - 1:31 AM PRINCETON, New Jersey (Ticker) -- The ECHL will be without a member for the remainder of the season as the Augusta Lynx on Tuesday suspended operations and relinquished their membership to the league.

"We are very disappointed for our fans, league partners and the other member teams of the ECHL," league commissioner Brian McKenna said. "The ECHL would like to thank the Lynx fans for all of their support."

The ECHL, which already is working on a revised league schedule, has announced Thursday's game between Augusta and the Mississippi Sea Wolves has been canceled, as well as the contest involving the Gwinnett Gladiators and Charlotte Checkers. Gwinnett will meet Mississippi on Friday and Saturday, while Charlotte will take on the South Carolina Stingrays on Saturday as a result.

All Lynx players are now considered free agents.

Augusta posted a 6-10-1-1 record for 14 points this season, occupying last place in the six-team South Division entering Tuesday.
