Aussie golfer makes strong start in USA
Dec 8, 2017 - 12:18 AM Rising Australian golf star Curtis Luck has made a promising start to the final stage of qualifying for the Web.com Tour in America.Luck fired a five-under-par 67 in the opening round in Arizona to be tied seventh.
The top 45 finishes - and ties - over four rounds will significantly boost their 2018 status on the secondary tour, a stepping stone to the lucrative US PGA Tour.
Luck, the former world No.1 amateur, set up his round with four birdies in his opening six holes and didn't drop a shot all day on the The Cattail course at the Whirlwind Golf Club.
Playing the Devils Claw layout, fellow Australian Ray Beaufils shares 34th spot after starting with a two-under 70, while Brett Drewitt is tied 52nd after a 71.
Newly crowned Australian Open champion Cameron Davis has some ground to make up after opening with an even-par 72 around The Cattail to be trailing Guatemalan leader Jose Toledo by 11 shots.
