Duhon leads Knicks past 76ers

Oct 11, 2008 - 1:42 AM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The New York Knicks gave Mike D'Antoni his first preseason win as Isiah Thomas' successor.

Chris Duhon scored 19 points and Zach Randolph added 18 as the Knicks cruised to a 110-104 exhibition victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday.

D'Antoni was unsuccessful in his debut on the Knicks' sideline, as his team fell, 113-111, to the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday. However, one of his most notable newcomers helped reverse his fortunes in this one.

Duhon, who was acquired via free agency in July, spent the previous four seasons with the Chicago Bulls. He will assume the role of New York's starting point guard in favor of the disgruntled Stephon Marbury.

The former Duke standout helped the Knicks overcome a 16-point deficit after the first quarter and outscore the 76ers, 38-13, in the second.

Newly signed Elton Brand scored 23 points and Andre Iguodala chipped in 16 for Philadelphia.

New York was without first-round pick Danilo Gallinari, who also sat out its preseason opener with a lingering back injury.

The 6-10 Gallinari, who turned 20 in August, has participated in more extensive individual shooting drills in the last two days but still may not be ready for another two weeks.

Thaddeus Young, who led the Sixers in their preseason opener with 21 points, left the game with 3:19 left in the third after hurting his face while diving for a loose ball. He suffered a cut and walked off the court with a towel on his face.
