Tenn. State defeats Tenn. Tech 109-102 in 2OT
Feb 16, 2010 - 5:33 AM NASHVILLE, Tenn.(AP) -- Robert Covington and Jeremiah Crutcher scored 24 points each to help Tennessee State defeat Tennessee Tech 109-102 in double overtime on Monday night.Covington was 8 of 10 and Will Peters was 9 of 11 from the free throw line, as the Tigers (7-20, 4-11 Ohio Valley Conference) used strong free-throw shooting to close out the Golden Eagles.
Tennessee State was 13 of 16 from the foul line in the final overtime period. The Tigers got four straight free throws from Peters and Covington, followed by a foul shot from TaShan Frederick for a 99-93 lead with 1:49 remaining. The Golden Eagles (14-13, 8-8) wouldn't get any closer.
Covington added 12 rebounds and Frederick had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Tennessee State. Peters scored 16 points, Jacquan Nobles 12 and Martell Buie 11 for the Tigers.
Tennessee Tech was led by Elijah Muhammad with 26 points and Jud Dillard with 24.
