Detroit prep star to play for his dad in college

Apr 14, 2010 - 11:59 PM DETROIT(AP) -- Ray McCallum Jr. says he'll attend the University of Detroit Mercy and play basketball for his father, who is the program's head coach.

The Detroit Country Day point guard announced his decision Wednesday.

McCallum says he looks forward to helping Ray McCallum Sr. win the Horizon League title.

The younger McCallum was Associated Press Class B player of the year in 2010. He scored 32 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Country Day in its 71-47 Class B title win over Lansing Sexton last month.

The 6-foot-1-inch McCallum averaged 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists the past season.
