LSU assistant Keith Richard has been hired to coach Louisiana-Monroe.

Richard, a former ULM player, was introduced Thursday. He takes over for Orlando Early, who resigned this month after five seasons to become an assistant at South Carolina.

It will be the second head coaching job for the 50-year-old Richard, who also coached Louisiana Tech from 1999 to 2007. Richard played at ULM from 1978-82, and in his last season helped the school to its first NCAA tournament appearance.
