Temple's Allen declares for NBA draft

Apr 24, 2010 - 1:37 AM PHILADELPHIA(AP) -- Temple junior forward Lavoy Allen declared for the NBA draft on Friday, although he has not hired an agent.

Not hiring an agent allows the 6-foot-9 Allen the option of retaining his eligibility. Underclassmen who have declared for the draft, but have not hired agents, have until May 8 to withdraw their names from consideration and retain their eligibility.

Allen, a first team All-Atlantic 10 Conference selection, became the first Temple player to average a double-double since Ollie Johnson in 1970-71, averaging 11.5 points and 10.7 rebounds. He led the team in rebounding, blocks (50) and field goal percentage (.536) while ranking third with 83 assists.

The two-time A-10 all-defensive team selection became the first Temple player to grab 20 rebounds in a game when he pulled down 21 in a 65-53 win at La Salle.

The Owls finished 29-6, won a third straight A-10 championship and were 12th in the final poll of the season.

"Lavoy informed me of his intentions to declare for this year's NBA draft, and we will support him as we gather additional information through evaluations," Temple coach Fran Dunphy said.
