Northeastern signs Coen to extension

May 3, 2010 - 7:50 PM BOSTON(AP) -- Northeastern coach Bill Coen has signed a six-year contract extension after leading the Huskies to the postseason in each of the past two years.

Athletic director Peter Roby on Monday called Coen "a terrific coach and educator," and said the contract will run until the 2015-16 season.

Coen has a 66-62 record in four seasons at the Boston school, including 20-13 last season when the team earned a berth in the National Invitation Tournament. That followed a 19-13 record the previous season when the Huskies reached the quarterfinals of the College Basketball Invitational.

Prior to Northeastern, Coen was a longtime assistant to Al Skinner at both Boston College and Rhode Island.
