Report: Beilein to leave West Virginia for Michigan
Apr 3, 2007 - 8:49 AM DETROIT (Ticker) -- Apparently John Beilein is leaving West Virginia.Citing a source familiar with the negotiations, the Detroit Free Press is reporting that Beilein has accepted Michigan's offer to become its basketball coach.
Beilein, who has 26 winning seasons in 29 years of coaching, including stops at Richmond and Canisius, will replace Tommy Amaker, who was fired March 17. In his five years at West Virginia, Beilein has reached the round of 16 and round of eight in the NCAA Tournament.
The 54-year-old Beilein last week guided the Mountaineers to the NIT championship, thus holding up negotiations, according to the report.
