Rice extends Braun through 2016
Aug 12, 2011 - 11:35 PM Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Rice University and head men's basketball coach Ben Braun have agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2015-16 season.Braun recently guided the Owls to a 14-18 record in his third season at the helm, the program's best record since the 2006-07 campaign.
"I am very pleased to sign a contract extension at Rice University," Braun said. "With our current players and staff in place, I believe our future is very promising."
Braun's 584 career wins ranks 13th among active Division I coaches.
"Ben Braun is a proven winner and a coach dedicated to developing young men athletically, academically and socially," Rice athletics director Rick Greenspan said. "At Rice we have lofty ambitions for our men's basketball program which I am confident will be reached under Ben's guidance and leadership."
Braun has 34 years of experience as a head coach, including 11 highly successful years at Eastern Michigan and a dozen at California.
