No.25 Florida State plays host to South Alabama
Nov 20, 2011 - 3:36 PM Tallahassee, FL (Sports Network) - The South Alabama Jaguars will travel to ACC country this afternoon, meeting No. 25 Florida State in Tallahassee.After opening the season with a 80-65 loss to Mississippi State, South Alabama rebounded with a 74-63 in over Mobile on Wednesday. The Jaguars used a 19-4 run to run away with the win, and were led by Augustine Rubit's 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Following blowout wins over Jacksonville and UCF, Florida State added another convincing win by beating Stetson 79-66 on Wednesday to remain undefeated. Okaro White led the Seminoles with 18 points in the win. Following Florida State's game with South Alabama today, the Seminoles will take part in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in the Bahamas next week, beginning with a matchup against UMass on November 24th.
Florida State leads the all-time series against South Alabama, 9-2.
Rubit shot 4-of-10 from the field against Mobile, including 10-of-12 from the charity stripe and also grabbed five offensive rebounds in the win. Xavier Roberson added 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting, which included two three pointers. Mychal Ammons scored 12 points to go along with his seven boards, and Javier Carter added 10 points and five boards. South Alabama, which trailed 43-41 at halftime, shot just 39.6 percent from the field but outrebounded Mobile 46-24.
White went 8-of-11 from the field to earn his 18 points against Stetson, and Bernard James added 11 points on 7-of-8 shooting. James added 11 rebounds in the win, while Deividas Dulkys game off the bench to score 16 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-4 from three-point range. Florida State shot 57.1 percent from the field for the game, and held Stetson to 37.3 percent shooting. James is averaging 11.3 ppg and 8.3 rpg for the Seminoles through three games. Michael Snaer leads the team with 13.3 ppg, and Dulkys averages 11.3 ppg, as Florida State is shooting a respectable 50.9 percent from the field so far this season.
