Gillian resigns as Longwood men's hoops coach

Mar 14, 2013 - 2:42 PM Farmville, VA (Sports Network) - Longwood men's basketball coach Mike Gillian has announced his resignation.

Gillian spent 10 years guiding the Lancers and was the longest-tenured coach in the 37-year history of the program. The Lancers were just 8-25 this past season, including 4-12 in their first year in the Big South Conference.

"Mike has played an important role in the history of Longwood athletics," said athletic director Troy Austin in a statement released Thursday. "I want to thank him for his service to the university, the effort he invested in the men's basketball program and his active involvement with community initiatives. I wish the best to Mike and his family in their future endeavors."

Gillian compiled a record of 93-214 during his 10-year run, including six at the Division I level. The Lancers played as an independent before joining the Big South this year.
