Giannini gets extension at La Salle after Sweet 16 run
Apr 25, 2013 - 8:23 PM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - La Salle and head men's basketball coach John Giannini have agreed to a multi-year contract extension.Giannini guided the Explorers to their first NCAA Tournament since 1992 this past season and they reached the second round with a "First Four" win over Boise State before knocking off Kansas State and Ole Miss. The last time La Salle reached the Sweet 16 was 1955.
The run ended with a loss to Wichita State but was enough for Giannini to receive an extension.
"I am honored to coach at La Salle," Giannini said. "I am deeply invested in our program and student-athletes. Our program is forming a pattern of consistent success on and off the court that we are eager to build on."
Giannini became La Salle's head coach prior to the 2004-05 season after stints at Rowan and Maine. He has 440 career wins -- 143 coming at La Salle.
