Towson's Skerry given contract extension
Aug 15, 2013 - 4:54 PM Towson, MD (Sports Network) - Towson University head men's basketball coach Pat Skerry agreed to a two-year contract extension on Thursday.Skerry was named to his current role in the spring of 2011, inheriting a program coming off a 4-26 season and facing NCAA sanctions for poor numbers in the Academic Performance Rates.
"Watching Coach Skerry's historic turnaround with the Towson men's basketball program both academically and competitively in the last two years, we are excited to announce this extension," said Towson's interim director of athletics Tricia Turley Brandenburg. "Pat and his staff have done a tremendous job developing and recruiting the type of student-athletes that are willing to work hard on the court and in the classroom."
After a difficult 1-31 campaign, the Skerry-led Tigers made NCAA history last season by posting the largest single-season turnaround. Towson registered its first winning season in 17 years and its 18 wins were the most since 1993-94.
"I came here to Towson to build a basketball program that would represent this institution both athletically and academically and make our fans and alumni proud," said Skerry, who is now under contract through the 2018-19 season.
Towson is now eligible for both Colonial Athletic Association and NCAA postseason play.
